GO SAINTS! XHS Activities Week-in-Review: February 20, 2025

Boys Wrestling
The Boys Wrestling team competed in a 3A District on February 15th at Waverly-
Shell Rock. Congratulations to Coach Chambers and the team on placing 3rd in
the meet. The Saints had a school record nine individuals qualify for the State
Tournament scheduled for February 19-22 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des
Moines. Congratulations and good luck to the following wrestlers at state:- District Champion | Jean Ngoma (215)
- District Runner Up | Jack Foster (132), Kale Leymaster (144), Dane Melchoir
- (175), & Dusty Cook (190)
- 3rd Place | Taitumn Deppe (106), Elliott Gnewuch (113), Germaine Ngoma

Girls Basketball
The 4A 8th ranked Girls Basketball team beat 5A 11th ranked Iowa City West on
February 14th by a score of 57 to 41. With the victory, the Saints clinched the
MVC Mississippi Divisional Championship. Congratulations to Coach Lilly and the
team on an outstanding regular season! The Saints are hosting a 4A Regional
Semifinal on Saturday, February 22nd at Xavier. The Saints (17-4) play Decorah
(11-11) with “tip-off” scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Good luck to Coach Lilly and all
members of the team as the “road to state” begins!
Boys Basketball
The Boys Basketball team plays Cedar Falls on Thursday, February 20th in the final
game of the regular season. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Xavier. Makes plans now
to come and support the team on “Senior Night” here at Xavier. The Boys
Basketball team is hosting a 3A Substate Quarterfinal on Monday, February 24th
at Xavier. The Saints play Maquoketa with “tip-off” scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Good
luck to Coach Freeman and all members of the team as the “road to state begins!
State Business Professionals of America
The following students participated at the State Business Professionals of America
(BPA) in Des Moines on February 17th and 18th:- Bryce Hoyt, Kate Deegan, Sarah Garbe, Emersen Reininga, Lily Prosevec, Lucy Cobb, Ava Linn, Grace Negrin, Lucy Oehler, Aiden Hansen, Chris Hounkponou, Gwen Schwendeman, Josie Kramer, Riley Hoover, Griffin Happel, Will Baumann, Ben Allard, Bradey Johnson, Dane Thomas, Gavin Miller, Gunnar Black, Andrew Pladsen, Ben Braksiek, Preston Feuerbach, Shawn Saini, Ella Westhoff, and Pranay Monga
The Tallcorn Jazz Festival is scheduled for Thursday, February 20th at UNI. JB1
performs at 1:30 p.m. The Liberty Jazz Band Festival is scheduled for Friday,
February 21st at Iowa City Liberty. JB2 performs at 8:45 a.m. followed by JB1 at
10:25 a.m. Good luck to Band Director Chad Allard and all members of the Jazz
Band!
Speech
The Xavier Speech Program is hosting the Xavier Catholic Schools Speech Festival
on Thursday, February 20th at Xavier from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Regis-
LaSalle Theatre. Good luck to all students who are participating!
The IHSSA Large Group All State Speech Festival is scheduled for Saturday,
February 22nd at Iowa State University. Good luck to Speech Director Scott
Davidson and the following Saints:- Nathaniel Perreault, Jillian Brock, Sam Geise, Jack Lammers, Joshua Lee, and Killian Simanek
Xavier beginning at 6:30 p.m. Good luck to all Xavier students participating as we
“kick-off” the Individual Event portion of the Speech season!
The Xavier Catholic Schools Choral Festival is scheduled for Wednesday, February
26th in the Ron Thillen Gymnasium. The program begins at 5:30 p.m. Good luck
to Choir Director Phil Schroetter and all members of the Xavier Choir!
