GO SAINTS! XHS Activities Week-in-Review: February 6, 2025

Girls Wrestling 
The Girls Wrestling team competed in a 1A Regional on January 30th at Solon. Congratulations to Elliana Casey on placing 4th (145). 

Boys Wrestling 
The Boys Wrestling team hosted the MVC Super Meet on February 1st at Xavier. Congratulations to Coach Chambers and the team on placing 3rd in the tournament, the highest finish in school history! Congratulations to the following wrestlers on placing in the tournament:

• Jean Ngoma (32-0) won the championship at 215 
• Dusty Cook (28-9) won the championship at 190 
• Jack Foster (25-10) placed 2nd at 132 
• Dane Melchior (29-6) placed 3rd at 175 
• Marek McNamara (22-9) placed 3rd at 165 
• Kale Leymaster (25-13) placed 3rd at 144 
• Bryce Naber (17-13) placed 3rd at 126 
• Germaine Ngoma (24-15) placed 4th at 150 
• Miguel Astorga (13-15) placed 7th at 120

Special shout out to Jean Ngoma for being named the Outstanding Wrestler in the 2025 MVC Wrestling Super Meet! 

The Wrestling team qualified for the 3A Dual team tournament for the third time is school history. The Saints beat Dallas Center-Grimes in the semifinal round on February 4th by a score of 32 to 31. Congratulations to Coach Chambers and all members of the team on winning a post season dual for the first time in school history! 

Girls Basketball
The Girls Basketball team is ranked 8th in the IGHSAU 4A Poll. The Saints beat CR Kennedy on January 31st by a score of 62 to 59. The team has a current record of 9-2 in the MVC and an overall record of 14-4. 

Boys Basketball 
The Boys Basketball team is ranked 10th in this week’s IHSAA 3A Poll. The team has a current record of 5-4 in the MVC and an overall record of 10-6. The Basketball teams play again on Friday, February 7th in an MVC doubleheader at CR Jefferson. The Girls game “tips-off” at 6:00 followed by the Boys game at 7:30 p.m. 

Bowling 
The Bowling teams competed on January 30th in the MVC Divisional Meet. Congratulations to Aubrey Sires on placing 2nd in the Girls meet with a series of 409. Jack Lammers led the Boys team placing 8th with a series of 427. 

The Girls & Boys Bowling teams compete again on Friday, February 7th in an MVC dual with Iowa City High. Match time is 3:15 p.m. at Colonial Lanes. 

Boys Swimming 
The IHSAA Boys Swimming District is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at Linn- Mar High School. Meet time is noon. Good luck to all Xavier Boys Swimmers who are competing to qualify for state! 

Honor Band 
The Iowa State Honor Band concert is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at ISU beginning at 3:00 p.m. Good luck to Band Director Chad Allard and the following band members who are performing:  

• Sarah Garbe, Elizabeth Whittaker-Smith, Eden McDonald, Benjamin Allard, and Katie Allard

Show Choir 
Congratulations to Xhilaration on placing 4th in the finals of the Sadie Street Show Choir Showcase held on February 1st at Anamosa High School. Xhilaration performs again on Saturday, February 8th in the Music in Motion Show Choir competition at Mount Pleasant High School. Xhilaration “takes the stage” at 4:30 p.m. Good luck to Show Choir Director Phil Schroetter and all members of Xhilaration! 

Speech 
The Large Group State Speech Contest is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at CR Washington beginning at 8:00 a.m. Good luck to Speech Director Scott Davidson and all members of the Speech team at State!
