GO SAINTS! XHS Activities Weekly Highlights: March 10, 2022

 

Girls Basketball:

The Girls basketball team won the class 4A State Championship on Saturday.  They defeated Bishop Heelan 54-40 to win the school’s 5th state championship!  Freshman Libby Fandel and Junior Kyla Mason were selected to the All-Tournament team.  Fandel was named captain of the team.

 

The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association Selected their All-State Team.  Congratulations to Libby Fandel for being named 1st team, and Kyla Mason for being named 3rd team.  Libby Fandel was also named 2nd team All-State by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

 

Head Coach Tom Lilly was named the IGCA 4A Coach of the Year.

 

Seniors Riley Jonker and Maya Karl were named to the IGCA Academic All-State team!

 

Jazz Band:

Congratulations to Ms.Swehla and Jazz Band One on a 2nd place finish at the NEIBA District Jazz Festival on Saturday. This finish automatically qualifies them for the 7th consecutive time for the Iowa Jazz Championships held on April 5th in Ames! 

 

Jazz Band One put on an outstanding performance at the Corridor Jazz project on Tuesday! 

 

Liam Perreault and Noah Upah were accepted into the Coe College Honor Band and will perform in a concert on April 10th.  

 

A look back at the Jazz Summit at Coe College.  The first place finishes by JBO and JB2 is the first time in school history that both Jazz Bands won first place in the same Festival!

 

Bowling:

Saints Girls Bowler Miranda Nolte was named 2nd Team All-District for the IGCA and Iowa High School Bowling Coaches Association.

 

Show Choir:

Xavier’s Xtravaganza was this past weekend.  It was a great competition for all!  Both Xhilaration and Xuberance put on great performances to go along with all of the awesome middle school performances.  

 

Tonight is the last chance to catch the show choirs for the year as they host  the “Final Show” at 6:00pm and 7:30pm in the theater. 

 

Speech:

Individual State Speech is the weekend in Grinnell.  Good luck to the following Saints as they compete for a chance to make All-State!

Next Week:

Boys and Girls Track open their season next week as they each compete at the MVC Indoor Championships hosted by Cedar Falls at the University of Northern Iowa.  Boys will compete on Monday while the Girls will compete on Tuesday.

 

Girls and Boys Soccer, Girls and Boys Tennis, and Girls Golf all start official practices the Monday of Spring Break!
