GO SAINTS! XHS Activities Weekly Highlights: September 2, 2021

Boys & Girls Cross Country: 

The Boys and Girls opened their season at Anamosa on Saturday.  The girls finished 5th overall with the top runner being Alma Cosgrove.  The boys finished 7th overall with Randall Kinner being the top finisher finishing 13th overall.  

The teams return to the course Saturday at the Linn-Mar invitational.  Running starts at 9:00am. 

Next week, the teams will travel to Grinnell on Tuesday and Luther College on Saturday.  

 

Boys Golf: 

 

Quincey Johnson shot a 1 over par 37 to earn medalist honors in the MVC Quad hosted by Iowa City West last Thursday. Grant Allen posted a 39 for the Saints.  The team finished 2nd overall and just 1 stroke off the winner.

 

Today,the team will travel to Dubuque Sr’s Bunker Hill to take on Prairie, Cedar Falls, and Senior in an MVC quad.  Play starts at 2:30pm

 

Next week, the team will travel to Brown Deer Golf Course in Coralville for the CRANDIC meet on Tuesday.  They then turn right around on Thursday and play in a MVC quad at Ellis Golf Course.  

 

Football:

The 4A top ten ranked Saints (1-0) defeated Western Dubuque last Friday 28-14.  Tomorrow, they head to West Delaware to take on the class 3A #2 ranked Hawks.  Varsity kickoff is set for 7:30pm.

Next week, the team will travel to Loras College to take on Dubuque Wahlert.  Varsity kickoff is set for 7:30pm.  

 

Swimming:

 

Our girls swimming for the Cedar Rapids schools continue their success in the pool.  Last Saturday, the girls for Kennedy won the Ram Relays in Dubuque.

Casey Gannon: 3rd in 200 medley relay, 1st in 400 medley relay, 2nd in 300 fly relay, 2nd in 300 breastroke relay

Anne Baumann: 3rd in 200 medley relay, 1st in 400 medley relay, 2nd in 300 backstroke relay, 3rd in 400 free relay 

Maria Trotta: 1st in 200 medley relay 9/10, 2nd in 600 free relay, 1st in 200 free relay 9/10, 1st in 400 free relay 9/10

Meera Julka: 1st in 200 medley relay 9/10, 1st in 200 free relay 9/10, 2nd in 300 fly relay, 1st in 400 free relay 9/10  

 

On Tuesday, both Washington and Kennedy competed and had a lot of success. 

For CR Washington-

Lucy Pfab placed 2nd in the 200 Yd Medley Relay, the 50 Yd Free, the 200 Yd Free Relay and 3rd in the 100 Yd Breaststroke

Ellanor Morrissey placed 3rd in the 200 Yd Free, the 500 Yd Free and the 400 Yd Free Relay

Ava Challenger placed 3rd in Diving

 

For CR Kennedy-

Maria Trotta placed 1st in the 200 Yd Medley Relay, the 400 Yd Freestyle Relay and 2nd in the 500 Yd Freestyle

Anne Baumann placed 1st in the 200 Yd Freestyle, the 100 Yd Breaststroke and 2nd in the 200 Yd Medley Relay and the 200 Yd Freestyle Relay

Casey Gannon placed 1st in the 200 Yd IM, the 100 Yd Backstroke, the 400 Yd Freestyle Relay, and 2nd in the 200 Yd Medley Relay

Meera Julka placed 2nd in the 50 Yd Freestyle, the 100 Yd Butterfly, the 200 Yd Freestyle Relay and the 400 Yd Freestyle Relay

 

 Volleyball

The 4A top ten ranked Saints (1-1)  will travel to Cedar Rapids Washington for the Warrior Invitational.  Pool play starts at 9:00am.

Next week, the team will have their first home match of the season.  They host Kennedy on Tuesday.  JV/Soph play at 5:30 with the varsity to follow at 7:00pm

On Saturday next week, the team will travel to the North Scott Invitational.  Pool play will start at 8:30am.
