New Learning Plan for Fourth Quarter

Dear Xavier Families,

With changes from the Department of Education and Governor Reynolds last week, it was determined that it is in the public health interest of the state for Iowa schools to remain closed through April 30, 2020.

We are happy to share that students will be able to continue their learning and earning grades and credit for their work. The following information outlines the ways in which Xavier will be able to best serve the Saints in their academics in the weeks to come. This new plan will go into effect on Monday, April 13, 2020.

We continue to share the factors we take into consideration as we make decisions during this time. These considerations include:

Keeping students engaged for their mental, social and academic health.
Keeping students learning knowing that multiple consecutive months without learning is very challenging.
Balancing home life. This may entail helping with siblings, or other responsibilities at home. This may also include the potential for illness (COVID-19 related or otherwise).
Balancing for those who are feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

The new learning plan has been approved by the Department of Education and has taken extensive feedback from parents, students and teachers into account. This new plan allows all students to return to their second semester classes. It is important to note this is done online and will be different than a regular school day. The learning plan for seniors varies slightly from that of freshmen, sophomores and juniors.

Tune In to Our Livestream Tonight at 5 p.m.
Knowing this information is different than the normal Xavier guidelines, Ms. Olson will be online for a live stream to explain this in person and answer questions tonight at 5:00 p.m. The stream (and Q&A) will be available on XavierSaints.org/Learning2020, Xavier's Facebook page, and Xavier's Vimeo Page.

Be sure to also note that parents are asked to complete an Intent to Learn form by Noon Thursday April 9.
