This year's Xavier Booster Club Golf Outing will be a hole in one.
Last year's golf outing took place on August 10, the day the derecho struck Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas. The volunteers, staff and afternoon golfers, who had not started golfing yet, had to take cover in the Elmcrest Country Club Clubhouse. The storm left damage to the course, which has since been cleaned up and ready for the 2021 golf outing.
The Xavier Booster Club (XBC) Golf Outing 2021 will be held on Monday, June 28 at Elmcrest Country Club with shotgun tee times of either 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. The format for the golf outing is a four person best shot. Lunch will be served for all participants at 12 p.m. courtesy of Panera Bread and the Young family.
This year’s event is the 24th annual outing that supports Xavier’s extracurricular activities including academic, athletic and fine arts programs. Nearly 30% of the $75,000 that the XBC allocates to support Xavier’s activities is raised through the golf outing.
Dr. Jason Schmit and Steve Nurre, the two co-chairs of this event, are entering into their second year directing this initiative.
“We are truly blessed to have an amazing group of businesses and individuals to support this event annually,” Schmit said. “I look forward to welcoming and meeting new participants each year that help our event continue to grow. This, in turn, allows us to increase our support of Xavier students' activities.”
New this year, Schmit and Nurre have worked with Elmcrest Country Club to create a website for the golf outing. It is a one-stop shop for our golfers and sponsors. It will allow people to receive more information on the event, sign up to golf, make sponsorships or donate without participating.
“There are many levels of sponsorship available, starting at $50 all the way to $5,000 for a presenting sponsor,” Nurre said. “Depending on the level of sponsorship, recognition will be given on the website, golf course hole signs and the golf scoring app, Golf Genius.”
The event also takes volunteers to help out around the course throughout the day, including many Xavier student volunteers.
“It’s really cool to see so many supporters come together to assist Xavier, even after many of their kids have graduated,” senior Kate Burns, who has helped at the event in the past, said.
The goal for the golf outing this year is to increase participation in sponsorships, golfers and volunteerism. XBC is planning on using future money raised to fund all allocations and assist with the renovation of The Kazimour Center [Xavier’s weight room].
On behalf of the students, faculty and staff, thanks to all donors and supporters of Xavier High School who have helped make Xavier a better place for generations to come.
