Congratulations to Xavier Football head coach, Duane Schulte (L80) on being named to the 2021 class of the Iowa Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame!
Schulte began his career in coaching as a sophomore assistant as a student teacher at Marshalltown High School in 1984. He then moved on to Davenport Assumption High School where he served as a varsity and sophomore assistant from 1986-1987 and then again in 1991. Schulte was named the head football coach Cedar Rapids LaSalle High School, where he served from 1994-1997 prior to the merging of Regis and LaSalle High Schools in 1998 to form Xavier High School where he has been head coach ever since.
During his time at LaSalle and Xavier, Schulte has taken 19 teams to the state playoffs, earned three state titles in 2006 (Class 4A), 2017 (3A), and 2018 (3A). He is the first coach to win both a 4A and a 3A state title. His teams have won a total of 12 district/conference titles.
At Xavier, where Schulte also teaches Law and Economics, he has had the opportunity to coach his three sons in football: Reggie (X13), Bryce (X16), and Quinn (X18). Reggie went on to play football at the University of Northern Iowa and currently serves on the Xavier faculty as in the Math department. Bryce and Quinn also went on to compete at the collegiate level -- both currently play for the University of Iowa (Bryce - TE; Quinn - DB). Schulte's daughter, Hope (X21), is currently a senior at Xavier and participates in multiple activities.
Schulte will be officially inducted into the IFCA Hall of Fame on Sunday, April 18 in a ceremony at Dallas Center-Grimes High School. He will be joined by Tom Wilson of Dowling Catholic, Jerry Shafrath of Hampton-Dumont, and Jim Dunne of Grinnell in this Hall of Fame class.
