“Over the last 20 years, the Xavier Booster Club has raised and allocated more than $1.2 million in support of academic, athletic and fine art activities. Annually each spring, coaches submit a request to the Xavier Activities Director for the Booster Club to consider supporting. Funds allocated are from dollars raised through the concessions stands, membership, NFL Raffle and program sales.”
Attend a Xavier volleyball game and you’ll know why it’s no surprise that 2018 was a record-breaking year for the Saints.
Not only were the sophomore and JV teams named MVC Champions, but JV also finished undefeated.
Similarly, the varsity team became nationally ranked for the first time in program history, finishing second in the state.
Now preparing for postseason play, the 2019 Xavier Volleyball team continues to show that their Number-1 ranking is warranted.
In addition to the support that the teams receive from their coaches, teammates and parents, the Xavier Booster Club (XBC) has procured the means deemed necessary for the program’s continuation.
Most recently, the Club has supplied funds to update and replace the old poles that help reinforce the nets, also known as standards.
“Without the Xavier Booster Club, we would not be able to do a lot of things. We appreciate everything that they do and provide for us,” Xavier junior and Creighton commit Eve Magill said. “Starting as an unknown girl from Iowa and ending up committing to a NCAA Division 1 top 20 program is honestly something I never thought I would accomplish. In the end, I can't express how grateful I am for my opportunities and the hard work and dedication from our coaches.”
Magill's story is a perfect example of what the work ethic of Xavier Volleyball is all about. Her journey, like many others, has been impacted by the Xavier Booster Club, which her mom and XBC Parent Representative, Kristine Magill, emphasized.
“Booster Club is a key element to the success of every student program at Xavier,” says Kristine.
She expanded on how XBC provides the means to give back to the amazing coaches, teammates, community, friends and family that have played a special role in their lives.
This sense of community and drive for success has been a part of the Xavier volleyball program for generations.
“Like so many Xavier High School athletic teams, the volleyball program continues to maintain high standards of excellence,” member of the 1999 Xavier varsity volleyball team Katie (Mills) Giorgio (X99) said. “I was just recently at one of their games with my daughter, a middle schooler, who loves volleyball and looks up to the girls playing on the team today. It's exciting to know that Xavier volleyball has an awesome history, an exciting present and a promising future!”
While new nets, standards, uniforms and players are sure to circulate every few years, it’s clear that some things never change. That being, the high standards which are consistently reached and exceeded through the generous support of XBC, the coaches and the players.
So, attend a Xavier volleyball game and you’ll know why they’ve got a big reputation for success.
