As a part of Xavier's Community System, each of our five student communities (St. John Paul II, St, Juan Diego, St. Teresa of Calcutta, St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Padre Pio) is made up of 5-6 "houses." Each house has a teacher "mentor," two senior leaders with representation from each grade (9-12). Students have regular "house time" throughout the school week for students to build relationships, participate in activities that promote faith, fun and fellowship. House time is an intentional effort to let every student know she/he is seen, known and loved.
Each House of the Month is recognized for going above and beyond in demonstrating Xavier's core values (Faithful, Serving, Passionate, and Xceptional) and building strong connections between each other and with God. Each house receives a Community Spirit Day and a pizza party for their recognition.
At Xavier...
...every student is recognized as a child of God,
...every student is inspired to be a saint in the world,
...every student is seen,
...every student is heard,
...every student belongs.
Xavier High School launched the Community System in the 2020-2021 school year. This system helps students build relationships with God and with others in addition to enhancing a sense of belonging and connection for each and every Xavier Saint who walks through our doors.
The system is comprised of five separate “communities,” each of which features a cross section of 9-12 Grade students, teachers and staff. The communities themselves are named after various saints: St. Catherine of Siena, St. Juan Diego, St. John Paul II, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio). Communities participate in a variety of activities together such as service projects, celebrating Masses and at pep rallies, and have time built in to the normal school day schedule to interact and learn about one another.
Relationships are built by being intentional with our time and effort dedicated to one another. The community system allows for just that through the various school community-based activities our students engage in. These activities cultivate joy and trust … and within the context of joy and trust, individuals learn about each other, provide support to each other and grow in their relationship with God. Trusted relationships also foster an environment to discuss deeper issues like faith, mental health, and emotional well-being.
It is imperative that Xavier provides an environment that fosters connection and relationships even more than we have previously, particularly in a world that drives us more and more to isolation. Our mission is to help develop the total person in a Catholic environment. To do that effectively, we must tend to the mind and the soul. Dedicating time for the building of relationships is important, further distinguishing Xavier’s environment from those at other schools.
Did you know that everyone at Xavier belongs to one of these communities? It's true! Not only does every student and teacher belong to a community, but so does professional staff, food service employees and maintenance workers!
Family members will belong to the same community. If a younger student has an older sibling at Xavier, that younger student will follow in their siblings footsteps in that same community.
