Needless to say, 2022 has been a special year here at Xavier with a multitude of new championship hardware being added to our trophy cases.
Congratulations to Coach Austin Filer and the Xavier Volleyball team on winning the 2022 Class 4A state championship with a 3-1 victory over Clear Creek Amana in Coralville! This marks the second title for our volleyball program (2020) and the 45th state title for Xavier in IGHSAU/IHSAA team athletics.
Also, congratulations to Coach Duane Schulte and Xavier Football on capturing the 2022 Class 4A State Championship with their thrilling victory in a championship rematch from last season vs. Lewis Central. The third-ranked Saints capped off a perfect 13-0 season, prevailing 45-38 against the top-ranked Titans. This marks Xavier Football's fourth state title (2006, 2017, 2018) and is the 46th state title for Xavier in IGHSAU/IHSAA team athletics.
These championships follow additional ones earned in 2022 by Xavier: Girls Basketball and Boys Tennis; along with those earned by Ally Burger/Declan Coe (Co-Ed Tennis Champions), Brady Horstman (Boys Tennis Singles Champion), Declan Coe/Hugh Courter (Boys Tennis Doubles Champions), Courtney Carstensen/Ally Burger (Girls Tennis Doubles Champions), Ella Tallett (Girls Tennis Singles Champion), and Aidan McDermott/Michael Cunningham/Grayson Hartman/Luke Efting (Boys Track 4x100 Champions).
