Aaron Malec got his start in the arts at an early age growing up in the thriving arts community that is Cedar Rapids, IA. He enjoys pursuing many outlets of the arts and has a passion for dance and theatre. Most recently, he appeared in Theatre Cedar Rapids’ production of “Billy Elliot: The Musical” as Older Billy, but his proudest acting achievement was playing the role of Paul in TCR’s “A Chorus Line.” In both productions, he also served as choreographer. He has extensive training in styles, such as: modern, ballet, jazz and tap, as well as experience in hip-hop, ballroom, and folk dance.
Aaron has worked as a freelance choreographer based in Cedar Rapids, IA since 2010. Starting his studies in dance at a local studio (Studio Dance) he continued at the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa. He has been fortunate enough to take master classes with several accomplished choreographers, performers, professors, and grad students from the Midwest. Additionally he has had the privilege of having his compositional work presented and adjudicated on at the American Collegiate Dance Association (North- Central Region) conference, twice.
Currently he teaches a variety of classes, coaches the competitive dancers, and serves as the performance coordinator at The Pointe School of Dance in Cedar Rapids, IA. His choreography has received high praise and top scores, but more importantly he loves being able to pass along his passion for dance to his students. When Aaron’s not choreographing or teaching, he owns and operates his own business, Herd Wellness, working as a licensed massage therapist, in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Aaron has been a part of Dancing With the Saints since the first season and is happy to be back.
