The Solemnity of the Epiphany is traditionally celebrated on January 6, the 12th day after Christmas.
Epiphany commemorates how the Magi, or three kings, followed the star to find the baby Jesus. At Xavier, we begin our celebration during morning prayer and students/school groups celebrate this special day in their own unique ways. Our Spanish Club celebrates the three kings with a Rosca de Reyes, or ‘king’s wreath.’ This ring of bread made with a sugary powder and jewels of multicolored candied fruit is split among everyone present, with one special piece holding a hidden figurine of the baby Jesus, symbolizing His protection from King Herod. Students always enjoy seeing who the baby Jesus will be revealed to and develop a better understanding of the manifestation of the baby Jesus as the light of the World.
