Xavier embraces the task of ensuring that each student is shown a path to success during their time as a student and long after they graduate.
The Learning Coach develops, reviews and updates 504 accommodation plans, monitors grades of students with 504 accommodations and helps students overcome academic challenges. A 504 plan is a blueprint for how a school will provide support and remove learning barriers for a student with a disability.
Xavier alumna, Ally (Kirby) Callanan (X08), was brought on to serve as Xavier’s first ever Learning Coach in late 2016.
The Learning Coach position was made possible through the generosity of longtime supporters/former XHS parents, Jim & Brenda Clancy. Since the implementation of the Learning Coach position, the average number of students failing at least one course per semester has dropped from 19 to 8 while the average number of total failing grades per semester has decreased from 29 to 12 -- a 41 and 42 percent difference, respectively.
The Learning Coach position is housed in the recently renovated LMC, a project made possible through the generosity of Mike and Jo Cambridge.
