GO SAINTS! XHS Activities Week-in-Review: February 27, 2025

Jean Ngoma placed second (215) at the Class 3A State Wrestling Tournament. Jean is only the third wrestler in Xavier history to advance to the championship match. Jean finished his season with an impressive record of 38-1. Congratulations Jean on an outstanding senior season!
The Girls Basketball team beat Decorah on February 22nd in a 4A Regional Semifinal by a score of 86 to 35. The Saints beat Waverly-Shell Rock on February 25th in a 4A Regional Final by a score of 67 to 50. Congratulations to Coach Lilly and the team on qualifying for the State Tournament! Xavier is scheduled to play #1 seed Sioux City Heelan on Tuesday, March 4th. Game time is 11:45 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The Boys Basketball team beat Maquoketa on Monday, February 24th in a 3A Substate Quarterfinal by a score of 74 to 35. The Saints play Dubuque Wahlert on Thursday, February 27th in a 3A Substate Semifinal at Xavier. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Good luck to Coach Freeman and all members of the team as the “road to state” marches on!

The Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference was held on February 17th and 18th in Des Moines. Congratulations to the following students who qualified for nationals:

The following students were selected as alternates to nationals:

BPA Nationals are scheduled for May 7-11 in Orlando. Congratulations to BPA Director Kevin Murray and all BPA students on representing Xavier so well at State!
Jazz Band One competed in the Tallcorn Jazz Festival on February 20th. The Saints placed 3rd out of 17 3A Jazz Bands. The following students were selected as Outstanding Musicians:
Benjamin Allard (trombone), Mia Deegan (trumpet/flugelhorn), Cate Brown (base), & Sophia Mittelstadt (trumpet)
Eden McDonald (oboe) was selected to perform in the University of Iowa Honor Band on February 22nd & 23rd. Congratulations Eden!
On February 21st the Jazz Bands performed at the Liberty Jazz Band Festival. Jazz Band One placed 2nd out of 8 participating bands. The Coe College Jazz Summit is scheduled for Friday, February 28th. JB2 performs at 6:30 p.m. followed by JB1 at 7:30 p.m. Good luck to Band Director Chad Allard and all members of the Jazz Band!
The Mid-Winter Band Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4th beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Regis-LaSalle Theatre.
The Individual Events District Speech Contest is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st at Central DeWitt High School beginning at 8:00 a.m. Good luck to Speech Director Scott Davidson and all students who are participating!
Marion High School is hosting the Marion Masquerade Show Choir Invitational on Saturday, March 1st. Xuberance “takes the stage” at 10:20 a.m. followed by Xhilaration performing at 4:10 p.m. Good luck to Choir Direct Phil Schroetter and all members of Show Choir!
The State Robotics competition is scheduled for Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st at the Xtream Arena in Coralville. Good luck to Coach Kathy Geers all members of Xavier Robotics at State!
