Masks Continue to Be Required at Xavier Catholic Schools

As you may have already learned, Governor Reynolds issued a proclamation last Friday, February 5, that lifted a “statewide mask mandate” in public places in the state of Iowa. The Xavier Catholic Schools administrators have discussed how to best move forward, and if any changes would be prudent at this point. In short, we do not plan to change our mitigation strategies in response to the governor’s proclamation.

Below are a few points to help clarify our approach and to put it into perspective:

The CDC, IDPH, and LCPH maintain that mask wearing (especially in enclosed spaces when social distancing isn't possible) is a critical mitigation strategy.
Wearing masks allows schools to utilize the more flexible IDPH quarantine guidance.
Even as school employees are beginning to be vaccinated, the IDPH says vaccinated employees still have to wear masks and follow current quarantine guidance.

We understand that many have strong opinions and emotions about the pandemic and mitigation strategies. It is important for all to be respectful and treat one another with patience. May we all be extended grace and blessings as we all continue to do the very best we can to provide for the health and safety of students and employees entrusted to our care.
