Svare, who has served in the role since 2022, has been instrumental in shepherding Xavier’s high-achieving activities programs. Under his leadership, Xavier’s athletics and fine arts programs have maintained its standard of excellence. Additionally, student participation remained consistently high with more than 95 percent of students participating in at least one co-curricular activity each year.
“I have truly cherished my time at Xavier High School. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the incredible students, parents, coaches, moderators, directors, booster club, staff, and the entire Xavier community. Their passion, dedication, and support make Xavier a truly special place,” states Svare. “However, after much reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down as Xavier’s Activities Director at the conclusion of my contract on June 30, 2025. This decision comes from my desire to focus on what matters most: My family.”
“Matt’s impact on the Xavier community is immeasurable. For those who haven’t served as an activities director – let alone as one at a school with high expectations – it’s hard to truly appreciate the demand of the role,” states Xavier High School principal, Lynn Holverson. “We will miss his leadership, but we also understand and support his decision to prioritize family. We wish him all the best.”
Prior to his current position, Svare served as the associate principal at Xavier from 2020-2022. He played a pivotal role in leading Xavier’s successful navigation of the pandemic.
Svare’s resignation was officially accepted by the Xavier Catholic Schools School Board on March 4th. Xavier will begin the search for a new activities director immediately, ensuring a smooth transition as the school year comes to a close.
