The Xavier Booster Club is excited to announce that Coach Gahring is the 2021 XTRA Leadership Award Recipient for her dedication, leadership, creativity and “can-do” attitude that is felt by her players, parents and Xavier community.
In 2007, the Xavier Booster Club’s XTRA Leadership Award was created to honor an outstanding Xavier High School mentor, coach of a Booster Club sponsored extra-curricular activity in athletics, fine arts or clubs outside of the classroom.
This year Coach Gahring received many nominations for this award. It is clear she does all of the “XTRA” things a coach needs to do for their team. In the past year she has solicited free turf and driven hours away to pick it up and bring it back to improve the girl’s field. She has worked countless hours on the Bullpen and Shed pre-derecho to improve the conditions. Coach Gahring always has a positive attitude and cares for her players. She continually looks for ways they can become better players and people checking in on them, their academics and coming to watch games in the off season.
Coach demonstrates the importance of respecting others including their opponents, the importance of working hard to use God’s gifts to the best of their abilities and the importance of teamwork. The girls were so appreciative of Coach’s efforts and so grateful for a season in 2020. Despite not having a typical pre-season, Coach led this group of girls (no seniors) to a 16-10 Covid shortened season.
Due to the Derecho, our group of 9 seniors will NOT be able to play their final season at their home field. But, in typical Coach fashion, she will lead the girls with the same amount of class while they practice and play at alternate fields.
We are truly grateful for Coach Gahring and all of her dedication to the Xavier softball program. Xavier is blessed to have her!
Thank you Coach Gahring for being a shining light for Xavier High School and the softball program. God Bless you. Congratulations from the Xavier Booster Club!!
