In more ways than one, the Xavier Booster Club has been a massive supporter of multiple Xavier programs, whether that be academics, athletics, or the fine arts. Through their endless support and fundraising in this volunteer organization, all of these programs have thrived, including Xavier’s Vocal Music Program. Without the booster club, events, like Christmas with Xavier and the Xavier Catholic Schools Choral Festival, would not have been made possible.
“The choir program at Xavier has really helped me grow as a singer but also as a person,” senior Noah Fischels said. “Doing work on your own time and not just in class is something that is necessary for success. These events have been phenomenal due to the support we receive.”
Alongside these events, the booster club also aided in providing repairs on robes for the vocal music program in the 2018-2019 school year.
“The booster club’s contribution to the program makes a huge difference,” Xavier senior Noah Fischels said. “Being able to update our robes is amazing because it helps us look more professional when we are up there singing.”
In addition to updating robes, the booster club has helped fund annual subscriptions, garment bags for choir robes, and conductor stands, alongside many other pieces necessary for the Xavier choirs and show choirs.
“One major contribution to the choir department was new choral risers, the funds for which came entirely from the booster club,” said Mr. Matt Walker, the vocal music director. “The Xavier Booster Club has consistently supported the choir department every single year, which has allowed us to do many things we normally wouldn’t be able to do.”
Many students have been truly impacted from these contributions and from the community support.
“I’ve been involved in choral activities since freshman year, but I’ve been in little kid show choir camps since first grade,” said senior Maria Brown. “I have gotten to make a lot of relationships with upperclassmen thanks to show choir and choir my sophomore and junior years.”
In addition to impacting current members, the Xavier Vocal Music Department has also welcomed back some previous alumni to its program in the last year.
“To have alumni like Meredith Diebold and Lily Bryant want to come back and be a part of the choir department, it just goes to show how special a place our department is,” Mr. Walker said. “In my ten years here, the Xavier Choir Department has continued to flourish, due to a lot of different factors, including student participation and community support of our program.”
The Xavier Booster Club’s support over the last 20 years just goes to show the positive impact it has had on several programs, such as Xavier’s Vocal Music Department.
As senior Noah Fischels said, due to the support of the community, “Memories made in the Xavier Vocal Music Department last a lifetime.”
The Xavier Vocal Music Department performs next at the Xavier Catholic Schools Choral Festival on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ron Thillen Gymnasium.
