The 50th day, the seventh Sunday, from Easter Sunday
Pentecost Sunday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Christ and marks the beginning of the Church gathered in public prayer and witness to the Risen Lord. Traditionally, our chapel is adorned in red to symbolize the joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit. Occasionally, Pentecost Sunday will fall on Xavier’s commencement ceremony. From his 2018 commencement address, former Principal Tom Keating addressed students to remind them, “It is appropriate on this Pentecost Sunday to remind you that as Jesus sent the Holy Spirit unto the Apostles and then sent them into the world to share the Word, we send you into the world to share His Good News. It's time for you to take your candle and go light your world. And with God in your heart, your light will shine forever. May He bless you and watch over you as you leave Xavier High School."
