Chris McCarville began in July 2019 as Xavier High School’s second president in school history. For McCarville, it was a return home as previously he served in numerous roles dating back to the school’s inception in 1998. From 1998-2008, McCarville’s positions at Xavier included theology instructor, associate dean of students, as well as serving as a long-time assistant coach with the football program.
From 2008-2011, McCarville served as the director of constituent relations at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, Texas. In this role, McCarville not only worked in alumni relations, he also served as a development officer for the $26.5 million “We Are Jesuit” capital campaign.
In 2011, McCarville came back to Iowa and served as the Director of Institutional Advancement for Holy Family Catholic Schools in Dubuque, Iowa. In his five years in this role, McCarville reorganized the Advancement Office into the current model still utilized today. He also led a major effort to update donor records for all Holy Family Schools and oversaw a complete rebranding initiative for the school system. At Holy Family, McCarville helped lead the “Soaring” $16 million capital campaign for major improvements and renovations to Wahlert Catholic High School.
McCarville began in 2016 as the Executive Director of the Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa (CFSWIA), serving the Diocese of Des Moines. In his three years with CFSWIA, assets under management grew by $12.5 million and relationships with parishes, schools and organizations within the diocese increased by 20%.
In his role as president, McCarville directly oversees all activity at Xavier High School. Specifically, McCarville spends the majority of his time ensuring Xavier’s Catholicity remains unmistakable, enrollment continues to grow and the Xavier Foundation remains financially sound.
McCarville is a 1997 graduate of Regis High School. He graduated with a BA from Mount Mercy College in 2002 with a degree in History. In 2008, he earned a master’s degree in educational leadership/principalship from the University of Northern Iowa.
He and his wife Erica have two children, Jack and Cole. The McCarvilles are proud, active members of St. Pius X parish.
