**SPECIAL NOTES TO SHOW CHOIR PARENTS AND CHAPERONES
We are asking all parents and directors to frequently remind all students about the importance of staying well-hydrated (suggesting that all students drink at least 8oz of water or Powerade 1-2 hours before they perform) and maintain good nutrition throughout the busy day. These simple steps can help prevent some of the most common complaints (light-headedness, fainting, and headaches) that occur. Please remember to have all children bring any medications (such as inhalers) they might need during the day. If parents have any special medical concerns about their child, they are invited to discuss this with the first-aid team, located in the nurse’s office, near the main entrance. Our goal is to make this a very fun, and safe, day for all participants.
Also, if you are a designated parent chaperone for your show choir, you must obtain your entrance wristband from your director on the day of the event. These will not be available at the ticket sale tables.

The Xtravaganza Middle School Show Choir Competition is the only local middle school competition that has an evening finals competition. All competing choirs will be judged and receive a critique during the daytime competition. The top six scoring choirs from the day round will compete in the evening competition for grand champion and 1st through 5th runners-up. In the event of a tie, the vocals score for the involved teams will be used to determine who will participate in finals. All choirs will be recognized for their participation.
In addition to the top six places, caption awards are given for best vocals and best choreography after the evening competition. These awards are given based on points received for these areas during the evening competition. In the event of a tie, the judges will break the tie.
A People’s Choice Award is also given at the end of the day round competition. A ballot for this award can be found in the competition programs. Additional ballots can be purchased where programs are being sold.
Xtravaganza judging will be based on various criteria including vocals, choreography, expression/interpretation, costuming and accompaniment. There will be three judges scoring during the day rounds and two judges providing choir critiques. For the evening rounds, all five judges will be scoring and no critiques will be done. There is a total of 170 possible points. Not all judging criteria are weighted equally.
